David Bowie unveils new batch of North American tour dates
David Bowie , who wraps up the first North American leg of his A Reality Tour on Saturday (2/7), will be back on the continent in late March to embark on a new set of dates.
Bowie is working the road to back his 26th studio album, "Reality," which he released last September. The album track "New Killer Star" was recently nominated for a Grammy in the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance category. His set lists for the first leg of the tour drew heavily on material from the '70s and from his two most recent albums.
Backing Bowie during the tour is the band with whom he recorded "Reality": vocalist/bassist Gail Ann Dorsey, pianist Mike Garson, drummer Sterling Campbell and guitarists Earl Slick and Gerry Leonard. The same lineup also worked with Bowie on last year's "Heathen," and toured with him behind that set.
The Polyphonic Spree opens from March 29 through April 30, and Stereophonics take over from May 6 through May 27. Support acts for the remaining dates haven't been announced.
Included in the new itinerary are make-up dates for several shows that were postponed last year when Bowie came down with the flu; Tickets for the previously scheduled performances will be honored at the new show dates.
Members of the BowieNet fan club get the first crack at tickets via online presales; information is available at Bowie's official website.
After completing the first leg of his North American tour, Bowie will head to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. He'll tour the European festival circuit--including a June 13 headlining appearance at Britain's Isle of Wight festival--after the second North American leg concludes, according to his publicist.
Last month, Virgin Records issued a special-edition version of Bowie's 1993 album, "Black Tie White Noise." The three-disc set features one disc that houses the original album, one disc containing rare and previously unreleased tracks and mixes, and a DVD featuring the "Black Tie White Noise" home video previously available only in VHS format.
