Tesla begins mapping tour dates as album release nears

Tesla delivers its first new studio set in a decade next month, and follows the release with a U.S. tour.

The group has so far locked in a series of March dates that kick off on March 12 in Minneapolis, MN. More shows are expected.

The tour launch comes three days after the band issues "Into the Now," its first collection of new material since 1994's "Bust a Nut." The new album features the cut "Caught in a Dream," which recently become the No. 1 Most Added track on the Active Rock Radio and Heritage Rock charts, according to the band's publicist.

The group--vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarists Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta--recorded the album at Hannon's home studio in Sacramento; the process took more than two years.

"The whole songwriting process was different from previous records," Hannon said in a statement. "We didn't settle for the first thing we wrote. A lot of that had to do with us being better friends and being more together than ever. It felt totally comfortable. Having the songs totally ready before recording is like sanding a house before painting it--the foundation has to be there."

The band members co-produced the set with Michael Rosen, but took control of much of the process themselves.

"Looking back at it now, it was all worth it," Skeoch said in a statement. "It was scary producing it on our own but it turned out great. And we really focused on every nook and cranny on every song. We couldn't have written and produced the new album without the newfound communication within the band."

Tesla broke up in 1995, but reunited in the fall of 2000 for a sold-out arena show in its hometown of Sacramento. A tour followed, and spawned the 2001 live set "RePlugged Live."

Tesla's platinum debut, "Mechanical Resonance," was released in November of 1986, and featured the hits "Modern Day Cowboy" and "Little Suzi." The group's three subsequent releases were also certified platinum, and spawned the Top 10 hits "Love Song" and "Signs."
