Briefly: Kid Rock, Twista, Neil Young, Marvin & Nona Gaye, Chi Cheng

As if the Janet Jackson breast controversy wasn't enough, Sunday's (2/1) Super Bowl halftime show is now getting flack from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which is upset about the makeshift poncho that Kid Rock wore during his performance.

Kid Rock created the poncho by slitting a hole in an American flag and slipping it over his head.

"While MTV and CBS have issued apologies for the Janet Jackson incident, they have yet to address Kid Rock's disgusting use of an American flag as a costume prop," the VFW's Edward S. Banas Sr. said in a statement. "The 1.6 million members of the VFW agree that Kid Rock's stunt was in poor taste and extremely disrespectful to the members of our armed forces who everyday pledge their allegiance--and their life--to our flag. I find it unconscionable that the entire news media, along with CBS, the NFL and MTV, have yet to address this."

Rapper Twista jumps straight to the top of the new Billboard 200 album chart with his sophomore effort, "Kamikaze," which sold about 312,000 copies during its first week in stores, according to industry sources.

All of the other contenders on the chart clocked sales of fewer than 100,000 copies apiece, with the former No. 1 entry, OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" down to No. 2 with about 85,000 copies sold.

"The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" and Evanescence's "Fallen" each drop a slot to Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, while Ruben Studdard's "Soulful" stays put to round out the Top 5.

A new version of Neil Young 's "Greendale" album--dubbed "Greendale: Second Edition"--is set for release on Feb. 24. The new edition includes the original "Greendale" album, and a DVD titled "Inside Greendale," which "highlights in-studio footage of Neil Young and Crazy Horse recording 'Greendale,' as well scenes from the 'Greendale' film, brought together by the artist in an innovative mixed-media format," according to a press release.

"Inside Greendale" replaces the "Live at Vicar Street" DVD that was packaged with the original release last summer.

Thanks to digital technology, Marvin Gaye 's daughter Nona will sing a duet of the National Anthem prior to the NBA all-star game on Feb. 14. Marvin Gaye sang a memorable version of the anthem at the 1983 all-star game. Video from that performance has been digitally enhanced and the audio was re-mastered for use at next week's game, according to the NBA.

The game will be broadcast live on the TNT cable network.

Deftones bassist Chi Ching will give at least two mid-February poetry readings in Northern California. The performances will feature new material that Cheng wrote since releasing his 2002 spoken word album, "Bamboo Parachutes," according to his publicist.

The readings will take place on Feb. 14 at Capitol Garage in Sacramento and on Feb. 22 at Caffeine Den in Stockton.
