Janet Jackson's Super Bowl exposure still under scrutiny

It's been four days since Janet Jackson 's bare breast was broadcast momentarily to millions during the Super Bowl halftime show, but fallout from the incident continues to reverberate through the media.

After rumors surfaced on Wednesday (2/4) that Jackson would be taken off the list of Grammy presenters--she had been scheduled to give a special award to ailing R&B artist Luther Vandross--Jackson's publicist told CNN, "We don't think she's going to go." Vandross is too ill to attend Sunday's (2/8) Grammy ceremony, and Jackson reportedly was told that her services were no longer needed.

CBS-TV announced on Wednesday that it would use a video delay--possibly of as long as five minutes--to edit out any potentially offensive material from its upcoming Grammy broadcast.

In related news, 'NSync's JC Chasez , who was scheduled to appear during the NFL Pro Bowl's halftime show on Sunday, has been scratched from the lineup. His bandmate Justin Timberlake ripped part of Jackson's top during the Super Bowl halftime performance, exposing Jackson's bare breast.

"No one could be more disappointed than I that the NFL has canceled my halftime performance at the Pro Bowl this coming Sunday," Chasez said in a statement. "I've told the NFL I understand the pressure that they are under since the Super Bowl."

Timberlake, who has said that the exposure of Jackson's breast was the unplanned result of a "wardrobe malfunction," reportedly told Los Angeles television station KCBS that his own family was offended by the incident, which he termed "completely, completely regrettable."

Jackson issued a videotaped apology issued earlier this week. She claimed that she and her choreographer changed her performance at the last minute to allow Timberlake to rip off part of her bustier, and that a red lace undergarment was supposed to have covered her breast.

The Federal Communications Commission's chairman, Michael Powell, has announced that he is investigating the entire Super Bowl halftime show, including the exposed-breast incident and other elements of the performance that he considered sexually explicit.

Meanwhile, ABC-TV has announced that it will for the first time institute a video delay of its Oscar telecast so that network censors are able to remove any objectionable content. A five-second delay of the program, which airs on Feb. 29, reportedly is planned.
