Switchfoot cranks out spring tour dates
Southern California rockers Switchfoot usher in the spring with a U.S. theater tour that supports last year's "The Beautiful Letdown.
The headlining run gets underway on March 17 in Los Angeles, and shows are scheduled into mid-April. More dates are expected.
The group plans to name an opening act "soon," according to its official website.
Released nearly a year ago, Switchfoot's "The Beautiful Letdown" debuted at No. 85 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The set's latest single, "Meant to Live," sits at No. 9 on Billboard's latest Modern Rock Tracks chart, and recently peaked at No. 5.
The group shot two videos for "Meant to Live," both of which are streaming at its website.
In November, the Recording Industry Association of America certified "The Beautiful Letdown" gold, signifying U.S. shipment of 500,000 copies; the set is "quickly approaching platinum" status (1 million copies), according to the group's site.
"'The Beautiful Letdown' is about real life: the good, the bad, and the ugly," frontman Jonathan Foreman wrote in the band's record-company bio sheet. "It's an honest attempt to reflect on the great and terrible aspects of being human, the tension of existence. A lot of people run away from this tension because the problems in our world are too hard to face. But the tension of being human is where we live and think and breathe. In fact, the very lowest moments in our lives are when we stand toe to toe with the truth about ourselves and our world."
Foreman and his brother, bassist Tim Foreman, formed Switchfoot in the mid-'90s. The group also includes drummer Chad Butler and guitarist-keyboardist Jerome Fontamillas.
