Ghostface Killah Announces North American Tour Dates
Wu-Tang rapper Ghostface Killah has announced a ten-date tour for North America in March, supporting his new album "Supreme Clientele."
His second album for Epic/Razor Sharp, the disc debuted two weeks ago at number seven on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. After selling 134,700 the first week, album sales dropped to 65,300 the second week, sending it down the upcoming March 4 charts to number 18. The disc also dropped from number two to number six on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart, topped by D'Angelo, Dr. Dre and DMX, among others.
Epic obviously hopes to boost sales with the tour, in addition to working the video single "Apollo Kids" on Black Entertainment Television. Epic will release a second radio single, "One," on March 4.
But the general attitude of Ghostface (a.k.a. Dennis Coles) indicates that he sees himself as a non-derivative rapper who can reach his audience without heavy radio play.
"These days, no one's being creative and making original beats and rhymes," the freestyling, sometimes non-rhyming rapper said in a statement. "Instead you have to sample somebody else to get over. That's OK, though; we [Wu-Tang] got 4.5 million fans with no real radio play."
