The Offspring gets busy with spring concerts to back 'Splinter'
The Offspring , whose latest album landed in stores late last year, heads out next month for a round of North American shows that support the set.
So far, the group has booked a mix of headlining shows and radio-station festival performances that kick off in Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 10, and stretch through the end of the month. More shows are expected.
Released in December, "Splinter" features the cut "Hit That," and is The Offspring's follow-up to 2000's "Conspiracy of One." The group re-enlisted producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Korn) to work on the new album, and recruited drummer Josh Freese of A Perfect Circle to lay down drum tracks during the recording sessions.
Former Rocket from the Crypt member Atom Willard is The Offspring's touring drummer for the "Splinter" outing.
Frontman Dexter Holland said in a statement that the group tried to avoid making an album that sounded like a carbon copy of its previous works.
"After seven albums, it takes some effort not to just rest on your laurels. I listened to some of our older stuff, and tried to pick out what the charm of it was, without repeating myself. I feel good about this record. We mixed things up a bit."
