Live Review: Britney Spears at Glendale Arena, Glendale, AZ
Spears left little to the imagination, strutting around the stage in bra and panties for her self-fulfillment song "Touch of My Hand." She writhed in a glass bathtub of rose petals and confetti, touching herself, as dancers did the same a level below her. The raunchy show clearly stunned the several parents who were seen leaving.
The show started innocently enough--as innocent as Spears gets--with the pop tart dressed in a black leather outfit, riding atop a moving platform that resembled a trolley. She and her band ripped through a super-charged rendition of "Toxic," then went straight into "Overprotected" before Spears took the time to acknowledge the crowd.
"So it feels really good to be back. Are you guys having fun so far? Let's kick it," she said.
Spears "kicked" into "Boys," during which her dancers pushed her and each other using luggage carts, banking on the hotel theme.
What followed were unfortunate, cabaret-lounge-meets-the-Pussycat-Dolls' versions of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "Crazy," during which Spears traveled the length of the stage singing into a microphone with a bullwhip on the end of it. Less sexy than the Pussycat Dolls, though, were Spears' garter belts, which, instead of being the real deal, appeared to be printed onto her tights.
Speaking of "Crazy," Spears twice acknowledged her hectic couple of months.
"There's a lot of cute fellas in the audience tonight. Don't you agree? Are you feeling lucky? Who knows; if you're lucky, I might marry you," she said with a quick, uncomfortable giggle.
Soon thereafter, she again mentioned her quickie wedding to high-school friend Jason Alexander. As she sat down at a flower-covered piano for the song "Everytime," she agreed that "the past six months have been like a roller coaster. There's been a lot of ups and there's been a lot of downs."
However, "at the end of the day, it's mainly who I am right now" that matters. "Everything we experience makes us realize how beautiful life really is."
