Lucinda Williams cancels dates due to mother's death

Singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams , who was entering what was to be the final week of her spring tour, has called off the trek's remaining dates due to the death of her mother.

According to a statement posted on Williams' official website, tickets should be returned to their point of purchase for a refund. The shows will most likely be rescheduled for August.

Williams called off her Sunday appearance in Charlotte, NC, shortly before the doors were to open at the Visulite Theater, according to the Charlotte Observer, which reported that Williams left Charlotte to be with an ill family member in Fayetteville, AR.

Williams was on a club tour that launched in February to support her latest album, "World Without Tears." The set, which was produced by Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, U2), hit stores in April of 2003.
