Lynyrd Skynyrd plots more shows, readies live album
Southern-rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd have filled in many of the blanks in their spring and summer tour schedule, and are due to release a new live album in the midst of the outing.
The group, which wrapped up its latest round of shows on Saturday (3/13), returns to the road late next month, and has scheduled dates through the end of August.
The summer outing will likely feature at least one other big-name act, according to a message posted on the band's website, which says that the group hopes "to have an exciting summer tour package to announce in the upcoming weeks."
Last summer, the group was due to mount a co-headlining run with rocker Sammy Hagar, but had to scrap the outing after Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington--who underwent quintuple-bypass surgery in February--suffered a mild seizure.
The upcoming summer run supports the Skynyrd's forthcoming live set, "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve," which is due out in June. The album is the audio version of last year's "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour, Celebrating 30 Years of Rock 'N Roll" DVD and Pay Per View special, which the group recorded during its July 11, 2003 performance at the AmSouth Amphitheatre near Nashville.
Skynyrd's most-recent studio set is last May's "Vicious Cycle," which features the cut "Dead Man Walkin'." The group released the song to radio stations last week, along with a live version of the hit "Red, White and Blue," which was the most-played song at classic-rock radio stations last year, according to Skynyrd's website.
