SXSW Editor's Picks for Saturday & Sunday: The last hurrah
Saturday night marks the end of the massive assault of bands at venues throughout Austin, and things die down considerably on Sunday, when most South by Southwest attendees will likely be nursing a weekend hangover.
A capacity crowd will surely turn up at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces St.) on Saturday night, where The Crystal Method and N.E.R.D. perform back-to-back sets at 11 p.m. and 12 a.m., respectively.
Singer/songwriter Pete Yorn turns up at The Blender Bar at the Ritz (320 E. 6th St.) at 12:45 a.m., part of the Trampoline Records showcase, which also features Jukebox Junkies, Minnie Driver and others.
Hip-hop fans can get their fill at Aussies (306 Barton Springs Rd.) during Saturday night's Murder Dog Magazine/Damage Control showcase, which features sets from M.C. Fatal, Play-N-Skillz, Gritboys, Dizzee Rascal, Bun B & UGK Present MDDL FNGZ, Swishahouse and others; DJ Kurupt and DJ Chill spin between sets.
Liz Phair performs at La Zona Rosa (612 W. 4th St.) at 9 p.m., and Cracker and sister-band Camper Van Beethoven play the same venue at 11:50 p.m.
Singer-songwriter Michael Penn takes the stage at Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W. 4th St.) at 11 p.m., and Dramarama caps the night at Elysium (705 Red River St.) with a 1 a.m. performance.
Other Saturday-night highlights include:
- Alternative Tentacles Records showcase at The Caucus Patio (912 Red River St.), featuring Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Comets on Fire, The Evaporators and others.

A much-less-eventful Sunday night finds only two venues--Beerland (711 1/2 Red River St.) and Emo's (603 Red River St.)--boasting official SXSW shows.
Beerland hosts a '60s-themed dance-party, with performances from Fuzz Club, The Ugly Beats and The John Sparrow.
