Wyclef Jean scatters U.S. dates through the summer
Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean , who issued his fourth solo album in November, is set to play several concert dates in the coming months to support the release.
The ex-Fugee's current itinerary includes a mix of festival appearances, headlining dates and college shows that are scattered through August.
Titled "Preacher's Son, Volume One," Wyclef's latest album is his first for J Records.
"It's the first album I've ever done where I focus on my songwriting more than anything else," he said. "That's why I call it Volume One--because it's a movement back to music. Being a hip-hop musician, being from a reggae background and of Haitian descent, I have a lot of music in my mind. For the first time on any record, I'm going back to that music."
The set spotlights several guest artists, including Missy Elliott, Patti Labelle, Cassidy, Redman, Carlos Santana, Monica and The Edge. Samples from several of the album's tracks--including the new single "Take Me As I Am"--are streaming at Wyclef's official website.
Besides his musical career, Jean is a budding actor; he played R&B great Curtis Mayfield on a recent episode of the NBC-TV series "American Dreams."
