Briefly: Velvet Revolver, Weird Al Yankovic, J.J. Cale, BR549
California authorities have given troubled Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland the go-ahead to tour with the band beginning in May.
So far, just one date is confirmed: June 19 at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
Weiland, who pled no contest to heroin possession charges last year, remains on probation.
Velvet Revolver also features ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagen (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums); and former Suicidal Tendencies member David Kushner (guitar). The band's debut album, "Contraband," is now scheduled to hit stores on June 8, two weeks later than originally planned.
The parents of Weird Al Yankovic were found dead in their Southern California home on Friday (4/9) after apparently succumbing to carbon monoxide fumes, according to published reports.
Authorities in Fallbrook, CA, told reporters that the bodies of Nick Yankovic, 86, and his 81-year-old wife, Mary, were found by relatives checking on the couple. The home was full of smoke, apparently because a fire was lit in the fireplace with the flue closed.
Yankovic played a concert as scheduled on Saturday night (4/10).
Blues guitarist J.J. Cale drops his first new studio album in eight years, titled "To Tulsa and Back," on June 8. Cale recorded the set in his hometown of Tulsa, OK.
A tour is in the works, but the only event on Cale's schedule so far is Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival on June 4-6 in Dallas.
Country-roots group BR549 --which lost several pieces of rare and vintage equipment to a thief in February--were victimized again last week in Seattle.
According to the group's publicist, the band's van and trailer have since been recovered, but its equipment, merchandise and personal possessions are still missing.
The band, using "rented, begged and borrowed equipment," is continuing its tour, according to a press release.
