Primus plots new round of spring shows as reunion tour rolls on
Quirky rock trio Primus keeps its reunion outing alive with a new batch of shows that kick off in May.
The band launches the jaunt--dubbed the Hallucino Genetics Tour--in Irvine, CA, on May 29, and dates are scheduled through late June. Fans who register at the Primus Ticketing website will have a shot at tickets before the go on sale to the general public.
The tour will feature the original Primus lineup--Les Claypool (bass/vocals), Larry Lalonde (guitar) and Tim Alexandar (drums)--performing "an entire evening of intricate rhythm laden, psychedelia," as well as "selections from their classic repertoire including a first and last time performance of the classic album 'Frizzle Fry' in its entirety," according to primuslive.com, a site through which the band is selling recordings of all 44 shows it played during its 2003/2004 Tour de Fromage outing. Recordings from each show on the upcoming tour will also be available through the site.
Last October, Primus ended a three-year hiatus with the release of a career-retrospective DVD and new EP, collectively titled "Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People." The DVD clocks in at three-plus hours, and features all 12 of Primus' music videos, including "Too Many Puppies," "Southbound Pachyderm" and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver." Also included are the award-winning short animated film "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" and the out-of-print, 1992 home-video release "Cheesy Home Video."
In addition to music videos, the DVD contains short documentaries on the making of "Mr. Krinkle" and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver," as well as "The Making of the Brown Album (Back in Brown)," all of which have never been available before; live performances culled from every era of the band's career; backstage footage; a complete discography; a Primus photo gallery and more.
The five new songs on the companion EP are the first that Claypool and LaLonde have recorded with Alexander since 1995's "Tales from the Punchbowl."
