Velvet Revolver precedes debut album with inaugural tour
Velvet Revolver --featuring ex- Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland and former members of Guns N' Roses --ushers in its first album with a U.S. club tour that opens in mid-May.
The tour wraps up with a pair of shows at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theatre on June 8 and 9 to mark the June 8 release of the L.A.-based group's debut album, "Contraband."
"We can't wait," band co-founder and former G N' R guitarist Slash said in a statement. "I'm just looking forward to fulfilling a touring thing that I never got to really finish with Guns. That's what I love, but we never got to do a lot of things for reasons that still don't make sense to me. I just want to play."
Rounding out the lineup with Weiland and Slash are former Gunners Duff McKagen (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums); and former Suicidal Tendencies member David Kushner (guitar).
"Contraband"--which the group co-produced with Josh Abraham (Staind, Michelle Branch)--includes the single, "Slither," a cut that is streaming at Velvet Revolver's website. The band recently shot a video for the cut with director Kevin Kerslake (Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers), which features the group performing "in an underground 'catacomb party' in front of hundreds of fans packed into the sprawling basement of a downtown Los Angeles warehouse," according to a press release.
Other segments of the video "are being shot in Europe, where 'catacomb parties' take place underground, reachable only by following a series of clues and traveling through the maze of tunnels that lay nearly a half-mile underneath the city," the release said.
MTV2 will premiere the video on April 27 at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, according to the release.
In addition to "Slither," "Contraband" also houses the cut "Set Me Free," which first turned up on last summer's "Hulk" soundtrack.
