Briefly: Beastie Boys, Sophie B. Hawkins, William Hung, Thalia
On April 28, the new Beastie Boys single "Ch-Check It Out" debuts on radio and will be available from the Apple's iTunes Music Store as a digital download.
The song will be the lead track on the Beasties' forthcoming album, "To the 5 Boroughs," which is expected to hit stores this summer.
Singer-songwriter Sophie B. Hawkins has won $324 in small-claims court from an eBay merchant who allegedly sold promotional copies of her latest album, "Wilderness," over the Internet five months before the album was officially released.
A judge found in favor of Hawkins after defendants failed to appear in court earlier this week, according to a press release issued by Hawkins' camp.
The debut album from UC Berkeley civil-engineering student William Hung , who gained infamy with his rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" on FOX-TV's "American Idol," debuted atop Billboard's independent albums chart during its first week in stores, according to Koch Records.
The set, dubbed "Inspiration," sold 37,600 copies in its first week, which was also enough to place it at No. 34 on The Billboard 200 album chart, according to the label.
A new magazine bearing the name of Latin pop star Thalia is scheduled to debut in May. Another issue will be produced in June, and more will come if demand materializes among its target audience of Latina girls.
