Aimee Mann begins mapping spring and summer dates
Aimee Mann continues backing 2002's "Lost in Space"--a special-edition version of which surfaced late last year--during a new round of touring.
So far, Mann has penciled in only a handful of shows, beginning with a two-night stand in Los Angeles on May 3 and 4. The singer/songwriter has also lined up June dates in Atlanta and her hometown of Boston, as well as a lone August stop in Saratoga, CA. More dates are forthcoming, according to her website.
Released in August of 2002, "Lost in Space" is Mann's fourth solo collection, and her second on her own Superego Records label. Contributors who helped Mann put the set together include husband Michael Penn, producer-musician John Brion and singer-songwriter Jason Falkner.
In December, Mann issued a special-edition version of "Lost in Space"; the book-bound package includes additional artwork and a second disc featuring 10 bonus tracks (six live cuts, "Lost in Space" b-sides, and two previously unreleased studio cuts), as well as the "Pavlov's Bell" music video. Only 20,000 copies were pressed, according to Mann's website.
"Lost in Space" is the follow-up to 2000's "Bachelor No. 2," which Mann used to launch Superego Records. She formed the label after a number of record-company shake-ups left her bouncing from one label to another. Despite its lack of major-label support, "Lost in Space" managed to enter the Billboard 200 chart at No. 35.
Mann gained fame in the '80s during her stint as lead singer of 'Til Tuesday, a group best known for its hit "Voices Carry." She regained the spotlight in 1999 for her critically acclaimed work on the "Magnolia" soundtrack.
