Bow Wow Wow to play handful of live shows this summer
Eighties-era new-wave act Bow Wow Wow embarks on a mini-tour this summer that will feature original members Annabella Lwin and Leigh Gorman, as well as No Doubt drummer Adrian Young.
The group has lined up July dates in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles and Santa Ana, CA. The East Coast shows will be Bow Wow Wow's first performances in the region in more than six years, according to the band's publicist.
Singer Lwin and bassist Gorman formed Bow Wow Wow in 1980, along with guitarist Matthew Ashman and drummer David Barbarossa. The U.K. group--best known in the U.S. for its Top 40 hit "I Want Candy," from the 1982 EP "Last of the Mohicans"--split in 1983.
Lwin and Gorman headed up a reunion in 1997, which spawned a new album and '97/'98 tour. On that outing, Vapours guitarist Dave Calhoun replaced Ashman, who died in 1995 of complications from diabetes, and drummer Eshan K. filled in for Barbarossa, who had prior touring commitments with the band Republica.
Last year, the group gave a one-off performance at Los Angeles-area radio-station KROQ's 25th anniversary concert. The show marked Young's debut with the group. Gorman spent over five weeks teaching the drummer "the unique Latin & Burundi technique of drumming" that is part of the group's sound, according to a press release, and will do so again in preparation for the upcoming summer shows.
"It's a dream come true to play with a band I grew up idolizing," Young said in a statement. "I feel like a kid back in the sand box."
Guitarist Phil Gough (Common Sense) will round out the group's touring lineup.
