Alison Krauss and Union Station lead Great High Mountain Tour
Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas hit the road this spring with several other artists featured on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "Cold Mountain" soundtracks.
The bill for the T Bone Burnett outing--dubbed the Great High Mountain Tour--also includes Ralph Stanley , The Cox Family , The Nashville Bluegrass Band , The Whites, and Norman and Nancy Blake, all acts that appeared on the 2002 Down from the Mountain Tour. Performers from the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack include Dirk Powell, Riley Baugus, Tim Eriksen and Reeltime Travelers.
The bill is rounded out by Ollabelle--a sextet that draws from nineteenth and early-to-mid-twentieth century rural American music--and Sierra and Cody Hull, who recently issued an independent album titled "Angel Mountain." Sierra is a 12-year-old mandolin player who has performed on The Grand Ole Opry and on PBS's "All-Star Bluegrass Celebration."
"Down from the Mountain was an extraordinary night of music, and we are going deeper into this exploration of traditional American music with the artists and songs from 'Cold Mountain,'" Burnett said in a statement. "There is great freedom in this music and in these shows that allows for every evening to be unique."
Burnett will serve as the show's musical director along with musician/filmmaker Bob Neuwirth. During the shows, musicians come on and off the stage, collaborating in various combinations.
