Cher Sets North American Tour Dates

Cher will begin a US tour June 16th in support of her latest album, Believe, which has re-ignited her pop career on the strength of the worldwide runaway hit of the same name. An initial run of thirty-one tour stops have been named to date, according to a press release issued Monday (4/12) by her label Warner Brothers Records. The label notes that more dates will be added.

The tour will benefit the Children's Craniofacial Association, a support organization for families of children affected by head and facial deformities. The singer first came into contact with the organization while researching her role as the mother of a facially deformed son in the movie ''Mask.''

Warner Brothers notes that the success of Believe pushes Cher into the role of pop artist with the greatest longevity at the top of the pop charts. The hit single comes thirty-three years after I Got You Babe hit the number one slot for Sonny & Cher.

The tour route begins in Phoenix, working eastward and then up the East Coast before circling back through the Midwest and Northeast areas of the country. The absence of venues on the itinerary nad lack of California stops indicates that final venue arrangements are still be made in several areas of the country.
