New Rock Hall members ZZ Top roll out summer tour details

Texas rock trio ZZ Top , which recently joined the ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, mounts an ambitious North American tour this summer.

The group kicks off the three-month outing in late June, and will play a mix of amphitheatres and fairs through late September. Also included on the itinerary is a June 6 performance at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas.

"We're looking forward to hitting the trail again," guitarist/singer Billy Gibbons said in a statement. "As long as the audiences are happy with the same three guys doing the same three chords, we're there."

Gibbons and bandmates Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month.

"This is a great time in our history," Hill said. "We were so honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and last year's tour was a great experience for us. We thought we'd just keep things rockin' this summer."

Gibbons, Hill and Beard formed ZZ Top in Houston in 1970. The group gained widespread commercial appeal with its 1983 album "Eliminator" and its 1985 set "Afterburner," which collectively spawned a slew of hits such as "Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Sleeping Bag," "Velcro Fly" and more.

Last September, ZZ Top issued "Mescalero," its first new studio set since 1999's "XXX." The album clocks in at just over an hour and features 15 original tracks, as well as the group's rendition of the 1967 Otis Redding and Carla Thomas duet "Tramp."
