Briefly: R. Kelly, Prince, Britney Spears, Guided by Voices
Embattled R&B star R. Kelly will issue his eighth studio album, titled "Happy People/U Saved Me," on July 13, according to Jive Records.
The album includes 20 tracks, all of which were written, produced and arranged by Kelly. Its first single, "Happy People," is currently getting airplay on radio and on BET.
Kelly has remained prolific despite the fact that he is still battling 14 child-pornography counts in Illinois.
The Viacom-owned cable networks MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1 and VH1 Classic will simultaneously broadcast a half-hour Prince concert special on Wednesday (4/28) at 9 p.m. ET, the Associated Press reported.
Merchandise sales for Britney Spears ' Onyx Hotel tour have crossed the $30 million mark, the highest for a solo-female artist in the last five years, Signature Network, Inc., announced on Monday (4/26)
The top-selling items, according to Signatures Network, are the pink "Toxic Baby Doll" shirt, the Onyx Hotel fashion jersey, and Onyx Hotel programs and posters.
Guided by Voices , in an announcement posted on the group's official website, has announced that its forthcoming album will be its last.
"This feels like the last album for Guided by Voices," frontman Robert Pollard said in a statement of "Half Smiles of the Decomposed," due in stores on Aug. 24. "I've always said that when I make a record that I'm totally satisfied with as befitting a final album, then that will be it. And this is it."
