Tom Waits enters the studio, album due this fall
Tom Waits is recording a new album, titled "Real Gone," at an old schoolhouse in Mississippi, according to Anti Records.
According to the label, the album--which should be in stores this fall--features all-new material that Waits penned with Katheen Brennan, his wife and longtime collaborator.
"Feelin' good about it all," Waits said in a statement. "Songs about politics, rats, war, hangings, dancing, automobiles, pirates, farms, the carnival and sinning. Mama, liquor, trains and death. In other words, the same 'ol dirty business!"
Waits' backing musicians on the album include Larry Taylor (who has played on Waits' albums since 1980's "Heartattack & Vine") on bass and guitar, Mark Ribot (who last collaborated with Waits on 1985's "Raindogs") on guitar and tres; Brain Mantia (Primus, Buckethead and the most recent Guns N' Roses tour) on drums; Casey X. Waits on percussion and turntables; Les Claypool (Primus) on electric bass; and Harry Cody on guitar and banjo.
Waits and Brennan produced the set, which was engineered by Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams).
