Christina Aguilera cancels summer tour due to voice problem

Christina Aguilera , who next month was scheduled to kick off a summer tour of North America, has canceled the outing due to strained vocal cords.

Doctors advised Aguilera to immediately rest and give her voice time to fully recover, according to a press release. The 28-city tour with special guest Chingy was scheduled to kick off May 13 in Seattle.

"I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel this tour. I was looking forward to being on the road again and spending time with my fans," Aguilera said in a statement.

Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase.

The tour had been planned as part of Aguilera's continued support for her latest album, last year's "Stripped."

A concert DVD titled "Stripped ... Live in the U.K.," which captures Aguilera's performance at London's Wembley Arena last November, was due out on April 6, but the release was delayed. A new street date hasn't been announced, but Aguilera's website is taking pre-orders for the set.
