Yo La Tengo hits the clubs ahead of Bonnaroo fest
Longtime college-radio staples Yo La Tengo have lined up a three-week tour of North American clubs that will end with a June appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival.
The trio continues to back its 2003 release "Summer Sun," and its follow-up EP, "This is the Day," which features an alternate version of the title track (the original can be found on "Summer Sun") and five previously unreleased tracks.
"Summer Sun" came in the wake of 2002's "The Sounds of the Sounds of Science," an instrumental collection that served as the score to French filmmaker Jean Painleve's documentaries of underwater life.
In December of 2002, "Merry Christmas from Yo La Tengo"--a collection that the group's official website described as the "quintessential jazz Christmas album"--hit stores. According to the group's website, the pressing has since sold out, and is now out of print.
The band's website currently houses MP3 downloads of two tracks from "Summer Sun," one song from "The Sounds of the Sounds of Science," as well as the song "From a Motel 6," which was recorded from a live radio broadcast and isn't available on CD.
The Hoboken, NJ, group's previous non-holiday, non-movie-score release is 2000's critical favorite "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out."
New York rockers Antietam, who are backing their recent album, "Victory Park," will support on all of Yo La Tengo's U.S. club shows in May and June.
