Mike Doughty [ tickets ] goes it alone this month during a series of opening dates for Galactic [ tickets ], but he'll have his band in tow for a subsequent club tour of his own.

Doughty kicks off the 17-date headlining run in New Jersey on June 5, and is scheduled to wrap things up with a two-night stand in Austin, TX, on July 1 and 2. His schedule also includes a June 11 performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee.

Backing singer/guitarist Doughty on the run are keyboardist Thomas Bartlett and drummer Shahzad Ismaily; the trio goes by the name Mike Doughty's Band.

The outing marks the first time that Doughty has toured with a band since his former group, Soul Coughing, broke up in early 2000, according to a press release.

On Wednesday night (5/12), Doughty began his solo opening stint for Galactic; he's scheduled to be on the road with that group until May 23.

Doughty self-released a solo-acoustic album titled "Skittish" in 2000, followed by "Smofe + Smang: Live in Minneapolis" in 2002. Plans are in the works to reissue the albums for sale at retail outlets; previously, they were available only at Doughty's live shows and via his website.

Last year, Doughty recorded his first full-band solo album, which Dan Wilson of Semisonic produced. He is currently shopping the album to record labels, according to his publicist.
