Pixies roll out more fall tour dates

The itinerary for the Pixies ' fall tour continues to grow, with the group adding new stops in more than a half-dozen cities.

The outing, which kicks off in early September, is now scheduled to touch down in San Diego; Las Vegas; Kansas City, MO; Nashville; Birmingham, AL; Detroit; Akron, OH; and Columbus, OH. Details are shown in the itinerary below.

The new dates fill more blanks in an ambitious tour schedule that begins in early September and so far runs into early December. More shows will be added, according to the group's publicist.

Prior to launching their own tour, the Pixies will perform at the Lollapalooza tour stops in Ventura, CA, on July 22, and at Randall's Island in New York City on Aug. 17.

Last month, the Pixies mounted a brief reunion outing that hit a handful of theaters and clubs in the U.S. and Canada. The run was the first time that the group's original line-up--vocalist/guitarist Frank Black (a.k.a. Black Francis and Charles Thompson), guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering--had toured together since holding down the opening slot on U2's 1992 Zoo TV tour.

In early May, the Pixies issued a new best-of album titled "Wave of Mutilation" that houses 23 tracks, including "Here Comes Your Man," "Gigantic," "Allison," "Nimrod's Son," "Dig for Fire," "Monkey Gone to Heaven" and a remixed version of "Debaser."

The group simultaneously released a new DVD titled "Pixies" that captures the group's 1988 performance at the Town & Country Club in London, and also houses eight Pixies videos ("Debaser," "Here Comes Your Man," "Monkey Gone to Heaven," "Velouria," "Dig For Fire/Allison," "Alec Eiffel" and "Head On"); the band documentary "Gouge"; and behind-the-scenes material.

The Pixies are currently holding a contest that offers fans the chance to win an original wet-proof of the artwork from the 1989 EP "Here Comes Your Man." The framed proof is signed by artist/designer Vaughan Oliver. Details are posted at the group's website.
