Toby Keith readies for USO tour, summer trek continues to take shape
Toby Keith resumes his U.S. road work in late July with a still-expanding slate of dates, but first he'll embark on a USO tour that will visit U.S. military bases in Italy, Germany, Kosovo and the Persian Gulf.
According to a USO press release, Keith and rocker Ted Nugent will be traveling together. They will perform free shows, meet military personnel and tour a variety of other sites. Their specific schedule hasn't been released.
The upcoming USO tour will be Keith's second; in 2002, he traveled with the organization to Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia.
Keith continues to support his 2002 release, "Shock'N Y'all," which is certified triple-platinum in the U.S. "Whiskey Girl," the latest single from the set, has been a mainstay on country radio and on the cable country network CMT.
Last month, Keith and fellow country singer Kenny Chesney led the pack at the CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards, taking home two awards each. Keith took the event's top honor, Video of the Year, for "American Soldier," and also scored the Collaborative Video of the Year trophy for "Beer for My Horses," his duet with Willie Nelson.
"Beer for My Horses" also pulled down the Video Director of the Year award for Keith's longtime collaborator Michael Salomon.
Keith is vying for five Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be handed out in Las Vegas during a Wednesday (5/26) ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Last Saturday and Sunday (5/23-24), Keith hosted his annual Toby Keith and Friends Golf Classic in Norman, OK. The event reportedly raised $250,000 for Ally's House, a non-profit organization that assists families of Oklahoma children with cancer.
