Jay-Z Pleads Not Guilty In Stabbing Case

update: Rapper Jay-Z has pleaded not guilty to charges that he attacked a record executive with a knife in New York. Following his Tuesday (2/22) plea, state Supreme Court Justice Alene Silverman warned the rapper to stay away from the man he is accused of stabbing, according to the New York Daily News.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, remains free on $50,000 bail, and he and his attorney reportedly did not comment as they exited the courthouse. In recent interviews, Jay-Z's lawyer has claimed that a videotape from the night of the incident will prove his client's innocence.

If he is convicted of the felony charges, which include first-degree attempted assault and second-degree assault, the rapper could face up to 15 years behind bars.

Carter was arrested on Dec. 1 following a scuffle that allegedly led to the stabbing of Untertainment Records head Lance "Un" Rivera at a CD release party for rapper Q-Tip at a New York nightclub. A Criminal Court complaint alleges that Carter slashed Rivera's abdomen and stabbed him "more than once in the back with a knife." (Rivera was treated at a nearby hospital and released.)
