Drowning Pool sets up summer dates with new frontman
Drowning Pool returns from Europe this month, and will set out on a series of U.S. concert dates with new singer Jason "Gong" Jones at the helm.
The Dallas-based group gets things started in its home state with a June 12 set at a radio-station festival in Padre Island, TX; two more June festival appearances follow before the group kicks off a handful of July headlining dates.
Joining the band during the July shows is fellow alt-metal outfit Flaw.
Drowning Pool is backing its April release, "Desensitized." The album is the follow-up to the group's 2001 debut, "Sinner," and is the band's first with Jones.
In 2002, original frontman David Williams was found dead on the band's tour bus during the group's stint on that year's Ozzfest tour. The singer died due to a heart defect.
"It was the hardest thing to ever have to do," bassist Steve Benton said in a press release. "One minute we were on Ozzfest having the experience of a lifetime, and the next moment our whole lives were rocked with the sudden loss of our brother. Ultimately though, you have to look forward to the future and not withdraw into a shell. I think Dave would be happy to see us continuing the way we are."
It was with Williams behind the mic that the group broke through on the music scene with the hit "Bodies."
The surviving band members settled on Jones last year after listening to hundreds of demos and auditioning a number of singers.
