Briefly: Jimmy Buffett, Diana DeGarmo, Fantasia Barrino, Boyz II Men, Cherie
Jimmy Buffett has set a July 13 release date for a new, country-inspired album titled "License to Chill."
The set features guest appearances by several country artists, including Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride, George Strait and Toby Keith. Its debut single--which is currently getting airplay on country radio stations--is a cover of Hank Williams' "Hey Good Lookin'," featuring Clint Black, Chesney, Keith and Strait.
The album follows the success of the CMA- and ACM-award winning "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," a duet by Buffett and Alan Jackson that appeared on Jackson's 2003 best-of album,
"American Idol" runner-up Diana DeGarmo will release her debut single on June 22, according to the RCA Records website. The song's title wasn't announced. "American Idol" champ Fantasia Barrino issues her first single, "I Believe," one week earlier on J Records.
Boyz II Men are scheduled to release a new album of pop and soul covers, titled "Throwback," on Aug. 24. Michael "Bass" McCary has retired from the group, but Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris are still on board.
Among the songs the group covers are Michael Jackson's "Human Nature," Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile" and Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," according to Koch Records.
Pop singer Cherie , who issues her self-titled debut album on Aug. 3, has been tapped to open Clay Aiken's July concert dates, according to Lava Records.
