Pearl Jam set to release first full-length acoustic album
Though Pearl Jam has frequently given acoustic performances over the course of its career, the band has never offered up a true acoustic album--until now.
On July 27, the group issues "Live at Benaroya Hall October 22nd 2003," a two-disc set that captures the band's two-plus-hour, sold-out performance at the 2,500-seat Seattle venue. The concert, which was a benefit for YouthCare, marked the group's first live performance of its Golden Globe-nominated song "Man of the Hour," and included acoustic covers of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War," The Ramones' "I Believe in Miracles" and Johnny Cash's "25 Minutes to Go." The full set list appears below.
According to a press release, a portion of the proceeds from sales of the album will also benefit YouthCare, a non-profit organization that provides services for Seattle's homeless and at-risk youth.
Though the set doesn't hit stores until late July, the group's website will begin taking pre-orders on June 21. Fans who order the release via the site--which will charge $13 for the album--will also receive a poster featuring a photo that photographer Charles Peterson shot during the concert; the site will also offer a limited-edition, vinyl box set.
Pearl Jam issued official recordings of all of the dates on its summer 2003 tour, but the Oct. 22 benefit was not previously released.
"This was one of those special shows, but because it was not part of the 2003 tour bootleg series and fans were asking for it, and because of the unique nature of the performance itself--it being the band's first full-length acoustic show--it felt like a show we should give fans the chance to own," band manager Kelly Curtis said in a statement.
Pearl Jam's official fan club--dubbed Ten Club--is distributing the set via an agreement with BMG; the band split with its longtime label, Epic Records, last fall.
