Briefly: Madonna, Sony/BMG, James Talley, Bowling for Soup

Madonna , in an interview with ABC-TV's "20/20" that will air on Friday night (6/18), says that she has adopted the Hebrew name "Esther."

The 45-year-old pop star--who was born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone and raised Catholic--has chosen the name for herself as a follower of the Jewish discipline Kabbalah.

"I was named after my mother," Madonna said in interview excerpts that ABC released in advance of the broadcast. "My mother died when she was very young, of cancer, and ... I wanted to attach myself to another name. This is in no way a negation of who my mother is. ... I wanted to attach myself to the energy of a different name."
