Bruce Springsteen's camp rejects 'draft' effort
Bruce Springsteen 's publicist, in response to a call for the New Jersey rocker to play a concert in opposition to President George W. Bush concurrent with year's Republican convention, has issued a press release that says Springsteen won't participate in such an event.
Shore Fire Media, in a one-sentence statement issued on Wednesday (6/23) regarding the "Draft Bruce" campaign, said that "Bruce Springsteen will definitely not perform any concerts tied to either the Republican or Democratic conventions."
Concert promoter and Democratic Party activist Andrew Rasiej claimed earlier this week that he has reserved Sept. 1 at New Jersey's Giants Stadium in hopes that he can lure Springsteen to play the concert, which would take place as the Republican National Convention is underway in nearby New York City.
Rasiej also launched the website DraftBruce.com, where he continues to collect signatures from fans who support his efforts to stage the show.
Springsteen has made no secret about his opposition to Bush, regularly speaking out against the president's policies in his concerts. The New Jersey rocker's official website currently features links to two liberal Political Action Committees, as well as the text of a recent speech by former Vice President Al Gore that is highly critical of Bush's policies.
