Jane's Addiction splits, spawns new group

Pioneering alt-rock act Jane's Addiction , which three years ago reunited after a lengthy hiatus, has once again split.

A statement issued this week by guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney said there were many reasons for the break-up, "some of them over 15 years old, some of them new and none of them worth mentioning. Maybe we are just a volatile combination. Maybe that is why we were so great. The bottom line is that we are all extremely creative and motivated people and I know we will all continue to create and work on many different projects."

The statement, which appears on Navarro's 6767.com site, continued: "Sometimes people grow apart in the relationship, it is nobody's fault really ... just a fact of life ... an inevitable creative dissolution. Sometimes the best creative relationships are the most combustible and they aren't meant to last forever."

Navarro, Perkins and Chaney have been recording new tracks with Skycycle frontman Steve Isaacs. The new quartet thus far remains nameless.

Isaacs, in a statement posted recently on his website, said that speculation that he was "effectively the new Jane's Addiction singer," is "totally f---ing nuts. No one in the universe could replace Perry Farrell and for anyone to try would be ridiculous.

"I don't know what the future of Jane's Addiction is, but I do know from being in a band for 5 years, that you yearn to play with other people and see what making NEW music sounds like. Life is beautiful, magical, and way too short, and to spend time not making music makes you die a little bit inside. I know about that, too."

Last year, Jane's Addiction released a new album titled "Hypersonic," its first album of new material since 1990's "Ritual de lo Habitual." The on-again, off-again group reunited for a tour in 2001, marking its first live dates since 1997.
