Al Jarreau readies new album, lines up concerts
Al Jarreau sets out later this summer on a round of live dates that support his forthcoming album, "Accentuate the Positive."
The veteran singer has lined up a batch of August shows that includes a performance in New York City's Central Park and a two-night stand in Washington, DC. Also scheduled is a lone September date and a pair of early October stops. Details are shown below.
The tour follows the Aug. 3 release of "Accentuate the Positive," an album that Jarreau describes as being "quite different than any other that I have recorded."
"All songs were recorded live in the studio with a quartet," Jarreau said in a statement. "There were no string arrangements, no background arrangements, background vocals or overdubs, only two solo's by harmonica and tenor sax were added after the original sessions where I sang along with the quartet.
" ... In effect what we did was to select some classic standards, some jazz standards and added two original pieces," he continued. "We allowed those classic compositions to lead us to new but simple arrangements of themselves."
Jarreau reunited with producer Tommy LiPuma for "Accentuate the Positive," which marks their first collaboration since 1976's "Glow" and 1977's Grammy-winning live album, "Look to the Rainbow."
Additional details about "Accentuate the Positive" are available at Verve Records' website.
