Sonic Youth fills schedule for July, August
Sonic Youth , which was forced to revamp its summer schedule after the Lollapalooza tour was canceled, has added several new club dates to its summer itinerary.
The New York-based, alt-rock godfathers launch a tour this week behind their latest release, "Sonic Nurse," which hit stores on June 8. The album features 10 new tracks, including "Unmade Bed," which has been shipped to radio stations.
A new Sonic Youth DVD titled "Corporate Ghost - The Videos: 1990-2002," which collects all of the group's official music videos along with commentary and other previously unreleased bonuses, was issued on the same day as "Sonic Nurse."
Sonic Youth had expected to spend its summer aboard the Lollapalooza tour, while mixing in a few headlining dates on Lollapalooza's off days. The band's schedule opened up earlier this month, however, when Lollapalooza organizers canceled that outing due to slow ticket sales.
Sonic Youth formed in 1981, and issued its self-titled debut album in 1982. The band's current lineup features longtime members Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), Kim Gordon (guitar, vocals), Lee Ranaldo (guitar, vocals) and Steve Shelley (drums). Multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke became a member of the group after producing and appearing on its 2000 album, "NYC Ghosts and Flowers."
The band followed up that set with 2002's "Murray Street."
