College, Promoter Trade Legal Blows Over Cypress Hill Cancellation
A Utah concert promoter has filed suit against officials at Dixie College in St. George, Utah over the sudden cancellation of a Spring Break concert featuring Cypress Hill . According to a press statement issued by the promoter, a restraining order will be filed in an attempt to force prohibit the college from blocking the event.
The college says that the concert is the victim of bad timing, falling on the same weekend that a major flood of students are expected to arrive for annual Spring Break festivities. As a result, the college will not be able to draw on local police for security, which they claim is standard practice.
The inexperience of a new director of the 4,500-seat campus venue that booked the concert is being cited as the source of the problem.
Representatives from both the college and the promoter, Soularium Music, met with US District Court Judge Dee Benson on Thursday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Both sides are reportedly working toward a settlement that could keep the concert happening while resolving security or scheduling concerns. Tickets to the show are still being sold at local music stores.
