Former Creed members navigate Alter Bridge
Former Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall have joined forces with former Mayfield Four frontman Myles Kennedy to form Alter Bridge , and will issue their debut album on Aug. 10.
The album, titled "One Day Remains," will be released by Wind-Up Records, which was Creed's label. The set's first single, "Open Your Eyes," is already gaining airplay on rock radio stations; a sample of the track is streaming at Alter Bridge's website.
"After all Creed achieved professionally, I felt that I needed to refocus on the goals that I had personally," Tremonti said in a statement. "One of those goals was to get back to my rock and roll roots. After Creed took a break, band-mate Scott Phillips and I started to jam together again and realized that we both shared the same vision and were surprisingly anxious to get back out there and start doing it again."
The Mayfield Four opened for Creed on its 1998 tour, and Kennedy made an impression on his future bandmates at that time, according to Alter Bridge's label biography.
"We called him and asked him to lay down vocals on a couple of tracks we were working on," Tremonti said. "None of us could recall hearing someone with his voice or passion--as soon as we heard what he did we knew he was the guy."
Alter Bridge plans to launch a U.S. tour on Sept. 23, but details hadn't been announced at press time. The group is scheduled to play three European gigs in mid-September, and is also scheduled to appear at New Orleans' Voodoo Music Experience on Oct. 17.
