Johnny Cash Hospitalized For Pneumonia

Country music legend Johnny Cash remained hospitalized in Nashville late Wednesday (10/20) afternoon, reportedly suffering from pneumonia. Cash, 67, was hospitalized twice for pneumonia last year, and he has said that it nearly killed him last fall.

A spokesperson for Nashville Baptist Hospital told the Associated Press that though Cash was in serious condition, his illness was not threatening his life. Cash initially checked into the hospital last week, and he was readmitted on Sunday after returning home briefly.

Although Cash is reportedly using a respirator to help him breathe, doctors say he may go home within the week, according to Nashville television station WTVF.

In April, at the ''All-Star Tribute To Johnny Cash'' in New York, Cash took the stage for the first time in 19 months, singing ''Folsom Prison Blues'' and ''I Walk The Line.'' The show featured performances by June Carter Cash singing ''Ring Of Fire,'' as well as Cash songs performed by Bob Dylan , U2 , Bruce Springsteen, Trisha Yearwood, Kris Kristofferson , Dave Matthews and others. TNT broadcast the show, attracting an estimated 10 million viewers.

Cash has rarely been seen in public since being diagnosed in 1998 with Shy-Drager Syndrome, a disorder similar to Parkinson's Disease.
