Briefly: Mark Knopfler, Green Day, Ricky Skaggs, Kylie Minogue
Former Dire Straits frontman/guitarist Mark Knopfler issues his fourth solo album, "Shangri-La," on Sept. 28.
The set is named for the Malibu, CA, studio in which it was recorded. "People like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Band used to hang out there," Knopfler said in a statement. "The owner has done a lot to preserve the place and invited me to record there. Old California seemed to go with a pile of the stuff I was doing and some of it rubbed off on the recordings."
The 14-track set is Knopfler's follow-up to 2002's "The Ragpicker's Dream."
Billboard.com reports that Green Day --which issues its new album, "American Idiot," on Sept. 21--is planning a fall tour with New Found Glory and Sugarcult.
Bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs will release a new album titled "Brand New Strings" on Sept. 28. The picker is backed on the set by his group Kentucky Thunder, with guest appearances by fiddler Stuart Duncan and accordionist Jeff Taylor, among others.
The concert DVD " Kylie Minogue : Body Language Live" is due in stores on Sept. 7. It features Minogue's full Nov. 2003 performance at London's Hammersmith Apollo, a backstage documentary and three music videos.
