Kinks founder Dave Davies hospitalized following stroke

Founding Kinks guitarist Dave Davies reportedly is recovering from a stroke he suffered on June 30, and is expected to be hospitalized for the next month.

"He is paralyzed on the right-hand side of his body, but he retains some feeling and he can still hold a guitar plectrum," his spokesman told the BBC. "These small things mean a hell of a lot. They're small but very important."

Doctors believe Davies--who collapsed after doing two radio interviews to promote his latest album, "Bug"--should recover after undergoing physical therapy, according to British press accounts.

Davies, who is 57 years old, had been scheduled to embark on a fall tour of North America in October; the status of those plans hadn't been announced at press time.

Ray Davies , Dave's brother and bandmate in The Kinks , was shot in the leg during a Jan. 4 mugging in New Orleans, and continues to recover.
