Switchfoot steps out with more U.S. tour dates

The members of Switchfoot , who last week wrapped up a round of summer concerts, will barely have time to catch their breath before diving into a new batch of shows.

The Southern California outfit returns to the road on Aug. 19 for a mix of fair appearances, theater dates and radio-station festivals. Details are shown below.

The group continues to support last year's "The Beautiful Letdown," which houses the current hit "Dare You to Move." The cut is also featured in a new public service announcement that the band recorded in for Rock the Vote. The PSA is streaming at the group's website.

According to frontman Jon Foreman, he recently met a fan upon whom the song had a major impact.

"We always make it a point to talk to people outside after the shows, and I recently had a kid come up to me and give me a big hug because he was so affected by 'Dare You To Move,' Foreman said in a press release. "Apparently, he was going through some really rough times and wasn't sure if he wanted to live anymore, but heard the song and was inspired. That's incredible. On days when you're wondering what you're doing playing a show in some small town in the middle of nowhere, you think about moments like that and realize that you're part of a bigger story than your own."

Foreman and his brother, bassist Tim Foreman, formed Switchfoot in the mid-'90s. The group--which emerged on the Christian-rock scene before breaking through to the mainstream--also includes drummer Chad Butler and guitarist-keyboardist Jerome Fontamillas.

In May, "The Beautiful Letdown" achieved platinum status, signifying U.S. shipment of 1 million copies. In June, Sparrow Records issued a limited-edition version of the set that includes a bonus DVD and sticker.
