Gov't Mule sets tour plans through October

August 16, 2004 11:07 AM
Gov't Mule has added a two-week run of October performances to its fall itinerary, a schedule that now includes stops in 16 North American cities.

The popular southern rock/jam band kept a low profile in recent months as frontman/guitarist Warren Haynes played a series of solo gigs with The Dead and toured with The Allman Brothers Band, but the group is lining up a fall tour to support its forthcoming album, "Deja Voodoo," which is set for release on Sept. 14.

"Deja Voodoo" marks the band's first studio album on which core members Haynes and drummer Matt Abts are backed by keyboardist Danny Louis and bassist Andy Hess. To date, the group hasn't performed any of the songs that appear on the album in concert, according to a press release.

"It sounds like Gov't Mule, but it doesn't sound like anything we've already done," Haynes said in a statement on the band's site. "It has the same muscle and the same influences and character. But the fact is that it's a new band interpreting, and I'm writing songs for the sound of the new band."

The upcoming album is Gov't Mule's first since its "Deep End" series, which featured guest appearances from a long list of bassists who filled in after founding bassist Allen Woody died in August of 2000.
