Old 97's extend tour well into the fall
The alt-country quartet, which previously unveiled a string of September shows, has now added a slew of October dates to the run, including five California stops. Details are shown below.
The roadwork backs "Drag It Up," Old 97's sixth album, and its first for New West Records. The set follows 2001's "Satellite Rides," the Dallas-based group's last release for Elektra Records.
"It's hard not to compare an album with those that came before it," lead guitarist Ken Bethea wrote in the band's label biography. "'Drag It Up' is our most personal. We recorded it on 8 tracks, which pretty much means there was very little studio trickery. What you'll hear, or maybe I should say, what you won't hear is second-guessing, sleight of hand or revisionist thinking. ... We have grown--albeit kicking and screaming--into a complex, philosophical and mortal band. I feel good about what we've done."
Three tracks from "Drag It Up" are streaming at the Old 97's official website.
During the time between "Satellite Rides" and "Drag It Up," the members of Old 97's took a lengthy hiatus to spend time with their families. Frontman Rhett Miller also released his debut solo album, 2002's "The Instigator."
