Seal rolls into home stretch of world tour, hints at future plans
Seal , who has spent much of the past year on the road in support of his fourth studio album, will soon wrap things up on the West Coast.
The singer launches the tour's last round of shows later this month in Texas, and caps the loose-knit schedule with a late-September performance in Los Angeles. Details are shown below.
Also on tap is a Nov. 11 performance at the U.K.'s Wembley Arena, part of a benefit event dubbed "Produced by Trevor Horn, a concert for The Prince's Trust." Other artists scheduled to appear include ABC, Art of Noise, Belle and Sebastian, Buggles, Lisa Stansfield, Pet Shop Boys, Propaganda and Yes, all of whom Horn has worked with over the course of his 25-year career.
Horn's credits include production duties on Seal's first two albums-- platinum-selling, self-titled sets released in 1991 and 1994--as well as 1998's gold-certified "Human Being" and last year's "Seal IV," which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart and was certified gold (signifying U.S. shipment of 500,000 copies) in late 2003. The album has apparently received limited record-label support in Seal's native U.K., according to the singer, who blames the head of Warner Brothers Records' U.K. division for the situation.
"One subject I want to touch on ... is the state of the record's commercial success in the U.K.," Seal wrote in a message board posting at his official website earlier this year. "I don't really know what to tell you other than that I worked my ass off (well not literally of course) doing everything [the label] asked of me by way of press etc. yet seemingly ... to little avail. ... [T]he truth of the matter is that the head of [Warner Bros. U.K.] has shown no enthusiasm whatsoever in promoting this record and has therefore not championed it nor made it a priority! So there you have it ... another over-paid, tired record company executive deciding the fate of yet another Seal record."
The singer went on to say that he is making plans to "record a double album which will consist of a greatest hits [collection] with perhaps four new tracks and an acoustic album which will be accompanied by a live DVD of probably both the acoustic sessions and our live shows."
No release date for the project is set. At press time, a spokesperson could not be reached for further information.
