Briefly: Van Halen, Linkin Park, Slayer, Sum 41
Van Halen reportedly is suing the Baltimore Orioles for allegedly backing out of a deal for the band to play a show at the team's baseball stadium.
According to reports, the group--which is in the midst of a reunion tour with formerly estranged lead singer Sammy Hagar--filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, in which the band claims that the Orioles backed out of an agreement for the band to play at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Sept. 2 for a fee of $1.5 million, plus additional ticket and merchandise revenues. The suit seeks damages of at least $2 million.
In other Van Halen news, the group has canceled its Sept. 12 concert in South Carolina and its Sept. 14 concert in North Carolina, citing scheduling conflicts. Meanwhile, a Sept. 13 show in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has been added to the itinerary.
Linkin Park earmarked $5 from every ticket sold to Wednesday's (8/18) Projekt Revolution tour stop in Tampa to the Red Cross Hurricane Charley Relief Fund. The total donation was expected to surpass $65,000.
The lineup for the next edition of the Jagermeister Music Tour, which opens on Oct. 29 in Springfield, MO, will include Slayer , Killswitch Engage and Mastodon, according to organizers. The itinerary wasn't finalized at press time.
Canadian pop/punk group Sum 41 has set an Oct. 12 release date for "Chuck," its follow-up to 2002's "Does This Look Infected?"
The album is named for Chuck Pelletier, a United Nations representative who helped to evacuate the group from its May trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it was shooting a documentary about that country's longstanding civil war with the nonprofit group War Child Canada.
The band arrived during a time of cease-fire, but violence broke out while they were in the country. "[Pelletier] herded the band into the lobby, then ran with them through gunfire to an armored tank and eventually to safety," said a press release issued by Island Records.
