Briefly: Slayer, Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Roger Waters
Slayer frontman Tom Araya was treated and released from a Myrtle Beach, NC, hospital on Wednesday (9/1) after experiencing severe pain due to a kidney stone.
The ailment forced Slayer to pull out of its planned Wednesday (9/1) performance at the Ozzfest stop in Myrtle Beach, but Araya and company returned to the stage for Ozzfest in Tampa, FL, on Thursday (9/2). The group canceled only one previous show in its 21-year career, according to a spokesperson.
Universal Records is set to release a long-awaited Nirvana box set this fall.
The three-CD collection is expected to surface in November, according to Billboard. A label spokesperson could not be reached at press time.
The Internet Nirvana Fan Club, a fan website, reports that the set is due out on Nov. 23 and will feature hits, live performances, b-sides, demos and previously unreleased rarities. The site also claims that the collection will include a 60-page booklet, and that the first pressing will include a DVD that features previously unseen footage and live performances.
Michael Jackson , who is currently on trial for allegedly molesting an underage boy, has been accused of bribing another child--the son of an employee at Jackson's Neverland ranch--over a decade ago to avoid molestation charge. Retired Santa Barbara County Sheriff Jim Thomas claims that the pay-off allegedly took place in 1990, when the boy was 12 years old, according published reports.
Thomas is scheduled to appear on "Dateline NBC" on Friday night (9/3) to discuss the allegation.
Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters is set to release two new songs, titled "To Kill the Child" and "Leaving Beirut." The cuts will be available exclusively as downloads beginning Sept. 7. Online outlets planning to offer the song include iTunes, Napster, Real/Rhapsody, SonyConnect and others, according to a press release.
