Jay-Z, R. Kelly announce release date for second joint album as more tour dates surface
About a month after the late-September kick-off of the duo's co-headlining tour, Jay-Z and R. Kelly offer up their second collaborative album.
Titled "Best of Both Worlds: Unfinished Business," the set is due in stores on Oct. 26, and features 11 new tracks. Paving the way for the album's release will be the singles "Big Chips" and "Don't Let Me Die," which land at radio stations on Oct. 4, according to Island Def Jam.
By the time the album is released, Jay-Z and R. Kelly will have played nearly two-dozen shows on the upcoming Best of Both Worlds Tour. Originally scheduled to launch on Sept. 30 in Rosemont, IL, the outing now gets underway one night earlier in the same city, where the pair is now set to play a two-night stand.
The itinerary also boasts a two-night stand at New York City's Madison Square Garden, and new stops have been added in a number of other cities, including Washington, DC; Dallas; New Orleans; Milaukee; Hartford, CT; and Philadelphia.
The up-to-date itinerary as of press time is shown below. More dates are expected, as the tour is due to hit more than 40 cities through late November, according to organizers.
Jay-Z continues to support last year's "The Black Album," which he has said will be his last solo set. The rapper recently picked up four trophies at this year's MTV Video Music Awards for his "99 Problems" music video.
Kelly issued his latest solo album--a two-disc set titled "Happy People/U Saved Me"--in late August. Videos for the tracks "Happy People" and "U Saved Me" are streaming at his website.
In 2002, Jay-Z and R. Kelly issued their first co-album, "Best of Both Worlds." The two had planned to tour behind the collection, but scrapped those plans when Kelly became embroiled in a slew of legal problems stemming from a number of child-pornography charges.
The singer, who still faces charges of more than a dozen counts of child pornography in Illinois, had to receive permission from a judge to set out on the upcoming tour. He reportedly will have to make daily check-in calls to his probation officer while on the road.
In addition to his own catalog of hits, Kelly has written and/or produced for Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Kelly Price, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and others.
