Briefly: Vote for Change concert, Fugees, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney
Tickets for the Washington, DC-finale concert of the Vote for Change tour--featuring Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews Band, the Dixie Chicks, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, Jurassic 5, Keb' Mo', Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Pearl Jam, and R.E.M.--sold out in about 30 minutes, according to organizers.
The show, which is set for Oct. 14 at the M.C.I. Center, caps the Vote for Change tour. The run is actually comprised of several simultaneous tours, all of which are political fundraisers presented by MoveOn.org to benefit the liberal advocacy group America Coming Together.
The Fugees gave a surprise reunion performance in Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday (9/18) as part of an event--dubbed Block Party--that comedian Dave Chappelle organized. The show--which also featured Common, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Kanye West and Jill Scott--was filmed and will be released next year, according to Billboard.
" The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus," a film shot in 1968, will surface on DVD on Oct. 11. Originally conceived as a BBC television special, the show was filmed before a studio audience in London, but never aired.
In addition to the Stones--whose members also host the show--the film includes full length musical performances by The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, Yoko Ono, and The Dirty Mac; the latter act featured John Lennon (guitar/vocals), Eric Clapton (lead guitar), The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards (bass) and Mitch Mitchell of The Jimi Hendrix Experience (drums).
Before hitting stores, the film will be shown in select movie theaters on Oct. 11. Details are available at BigScreenConcerts.com.
Paul McCartney and wife Heather Mill McCartney on Tuesday (9/21) will launch the Adopt-A-Minefield Charity Auction. Items auctioned off will include memorabilia from musical artists such as Ringo Starr, Aerosmith, Kid Rock, Tom Petty, Sting, Jimmy Buffet, Coldplay, Norah Jones, B.B. King and Shania Twain, according to a press release.
The auction benefits the United Nations Association of the USA's Adopt-A-Minefield program, which raises funds for mine clearance and survivor assistance, and increases awareness about the landmine problem.
